About Me
I am currently a PhD Candidate in Medieval History at Fordham University in New York City, although I currently live in Seattle, WA. I am writing my dissertation about "The Manuscript Context of Medieval Welsh Prophecies."
I think I was originally drawn to things Welsh by my love of the Arthurian legend as a child. In high school, as part of an honors project, I wrote historical fiction about a 12th-century Welsh bard. In graduate school, I had the amazing good fortune to take a course in Middle Welsh Language and Literature from Prof. Catherine McKenna during her last year at CUNY. I realized that there is a lot of room for research in Welsh history, and that it is a great field to exercise my love of interdisciplinary studies, so I have focused on Welsh history in my research.
After Prof. McKenna left New York for Boston, several of her students continued to gather regularly to translate Middle Welsh together. Now that I have moved to Seattle, I sorely miss having that community to share translation triumphs and tribulations. I am hoping that this wiki will be a place where the few of us scattered across the world who enjoy translating Middle Welsh will find that we aren't as few as we thought, and be able to learn with and from each other.
